Detox to Lose Weight
Detoxification programs have been promoted as the remedy to today’s unhealthy lifestyles for years. Proponents of detoxification note that a good detox can help increase energy, slow the aging process, aid the digestive system and help relieve the symptoms of diabetes and asthma. One of the greatest benefits of a good detoxification program is weight loss.
Our bodies are equipped with several systems to help it naturally detox. However, today’s stressful lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits often overburden our natural systems. As our body struggles to keep up with the toxic matter flowing through our systems it often falls behind. Toxic waste begins to back up and the balance of our body is disrupted.
A good detox will help restore the body’s balance, eliminate the waste building up and make our systems run much more efficiently. During autopsies, coroners often find colons that are more than 75% clogged with waste matter. This causes the systems that clean our blood and intestinal tracts to back up. Nutrients can’t be absorbed as efficiently and we gain weight, become tired and irritable. Health issues often follow.
Cleaning the colon and the liver often completely relieves these clogs and allows our bodies to return to optimum functioning. Nutrients are used efficiently and many find that the detox program has such great results that they simply don’t crave sugar and fried foods after the detoxification. Many report feeling so good after detoxifying that they are motivated to eat more carefully.
With the toxins being flushed out of the body, many report a dramatic increase in energy level, encouraging many to exercise and further assist their detox in reducing weight.
Researchers have found that as the level of toxins in the body rises, more fat is manufactured to protect the body. Weight gain is a natural by-product of toxin buildup. Removing the toxins from the body allows the body to release the excess fat, resulting in a natural weight loss.
There are many detoxification programs on the market. Choose a gentle, well researched program that includes a parasite remover as well. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at your increased energy and amount of weight loss!

Well the festive season has passed, and here we are in the New Year, contemplating our lives and our navels. The question being is your navel in the same place as it was before the season of over indulgence? If you have emerged from 2005 fighting fit and still fitting snugly into your cycling shorts, then very well done. If however 2006 finds you languishing in your emergency joggers(the huge ones at the bottom of the drawer) and still miserably picking over the last of the novelty-shaped cheese snackos, then YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Help is at hand; at this time of the year the papers and magazines are crammed full of new diets, and the buzz word is DETOX. So should we detox?
There are so many expensive products and plans on offer; 7 Day Detox diets, nutritional supplements, scientific-looking kits containing herbs and exotic ingredients. They claim to eliminate toxins that have built up within our bodies and many contain ‘diuretic’ herbs to encourage urination, and get rid of them. This all seems like a good idea, especially if we feel sluggish or guilty about overindulging. Thank goodness there is a wealth of products to get us back into tip-top condition ASAP.
The problem is that there is little scientific evidence that these things really work, other than making us think that we are doing something healthy. The massive diet and nutrition industries have created yet another myth, the Detox Myth, encouraging us to spend money on pills, treatments, spa breaks, books etc, but the benefits of the products are questionable, and the claims are not supported by science.
Each day, normal bodily processes (even stressful situations) produce ‘toxic’ chemical products which the body then uses, breaks down or excretes. If you eat plenty of whole foods and fruit and vegetables, stay hydrated, and exercise regularly, your body will work efficiently to metabolize and deal with bodily and environmental chemicals, but this needs to be worked at every day of your life; and that is the naked truth of the matter. Most people just don’t want to hear it; it seems like too much hard work and that it why the quick-fix industries exist. They are selling us the belief that we can behave exactly how we wish, and then spend money to make it better quickly and without sustained effort.
So my New Year message is to reject the Detox mentality! How much difference can a 7 day plan really make? Our body has many different rhythms and processes some taking hours, some taking months, and changing your life drastically for a short time will never confer a lasting benefit. Be kinder to yourself, and take some time to consider how you can be more healthy, then set yourself an achievable goal each week, for example; week 1- drink 1.5 liters of water each day, week 2: snack on fruit, week 3: find a walking partner. Healthy living is about making gentle and sustainable changes to our diet and lifestyle, allowing our body to acclimatize, and our tastes to adjust slowly, until eating well and exercising becomes a habitual and normal part of every-day life. This is the true path to a long, productive and quality life, something that you cannot buy in a box, however much money you spend.
Until next time, take care and stay healthy!

Detoxification is something our bodies do on a daily basis. It is the process of eliminating toxins through the five eliminatory channels:
Liver
Colon
Lungs
Kidneys
Lymph
Skin
In the world we live in today, with polluted water, air and food, our bodies regularly get overloaded with substances that do not support our body - toxins! Our bodies become overloaded and are over-burdened with eliminating toxins. So many undesirable substances stay our bodies.
Surrounding these substances with mucous and fat is one way our system tries to shield us from these invading substances. a good portion is stored in our fat deposits!
A detoxification program is a good way of assisting our body to eliminate and neutralize these harmful toxins.
Let us look at the 5 organs for detoxification:
Liver
The liver is the largest internal organ in the body and plays a crucial role in maintaining normal metabolism and detoxifying the body.
Colon
Disease begins in the colon. The colon is responsible for both carrying wastes out of the body and nourishing the body. Nutrients are absorbed in the colon. So if your body is storing toxins and excess mucous they will be stuck to the intestinal walls of the colon. Making it very hard for your body to absorb the required nutrients and eliminate the wastes traveling through the colon.
Lungs
Your lungs are responsible for helping your body get the required oxygen it needs by processing the air we breathe. The lungs are one of the first organs to intake toxins. A cold is usually a sign that your body is trying to rid itself of toxins and waste matter that has built up to the point of overwhelming your immune system.
Kidneys
The kidneys play an important role as a filter for the body as well. Water is vital to helping the kidneys do their job. The average person eliminates approximately 5 pints of water a day. Drinking adequate water is essential.
Lymph
The lymphatic system carries a clear fluid which contains excess proteins, wastes, and other elements. This fluid called lymph surrounds the cells of our body to bring them nourishment and carry wastes out of the body.
Unlike the blood, the lymph does not have the heart to pump it through the body. It must rely on the movement of the body and stimulation.
Skin
As mentioned earlier, the skin is the largest organ of the body.
Benefits of Detoxification
There are several benefits of detoxification:
- End your cravings for habit-forming substances such as sugar, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and drugs.
- Increase your energy by removing toxins that wear you down.
- Shrink your stomach to its normal size, making it easier to control the quantity of food eaten.
- Boost your mental clarity by flushing away chemicals, food additives and preservatives.
- Break your bad eating habits to achieve or maintain your desired weight.
- Lose weight. A detox program is the first step to safe and effective weight loss.
- Cleanse your digestive tract of accumulated waste and bacteria.
- Purify all your major organs allowing you to function at your best.
- Reduce cellulite, allergies, acne and obesity safely and naturally.
What is a good Detox program?
A Good Detoxification program should be designed to help the body cleanse itself of toxins, mucus, and waste materials in the intestinal tract and liver, kidneys, and blood, thus helping your body function better. This not only restores new energy to your vital organs, but to the entire body as well.
