Detox Aids - The Myth Of Detoxing

Many people buy detox aids looking for a quick miracle fix just from taking a branded supplement, which will cleanse your body, but there is no evidence to support many of these claims.

If you want to detox properly it involves eating the RIGHT Diet to detox your body not simply adding a detox aid. Detoxing is not that simple!

There are some easy ways to detox and this involves simply a change to diet and don’t forget your body’s organs are designed to detox without any help from branded pills or juices!

Let’s look at the myth of detox aids and how to detox properly.

The body has its own detoxification system already!

Most of the pills, juices teas and oils sold as detox aids have no scientific foundation to back up their claims, yet people still buy them looking for a quick fix!

The reality of detoxing is that the body has its own in build detoxifiers namely the liver, kidneys, skin intestines and lungs and they are designed to remove and excrete toxins within hours of consumption.

Want to detox? Change your eating habits

The fact is to detoxify your body all you have to do is make simple changes to your diet.

If you simply drunk more water (at least 2 litres a day) and ate more fruit and vegetables your skin would look better and you would feel healthier.

Combine the above with removing from your diet what you know is bad for you i.e alcohol cigarettes and caffeine and you will compound the feeling of well being.

Think about it if our bodies can naturally detox and we simply add foods we know are good for us and remove ones we know are bad, the body will take care of the rest.

Logic tells you that if the body has organs to detoxify then how can a pill or juice help?

If you are in eating foods which are bad, a branded pill or juice cannot save your liver from alcohol or your lungs from smoke.

Detox naturally

All you need to do is eat a healthy diet and skip the detox aids. So, what foods need to be removed? Here is a list of essentials:

Red meat
Alcohol
Tea coffee and anything with caffeine in it
Sugar
Dairy products cheese eggs and full fat milk
All processed and junk foods
All processed carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta

Keep in mind you if you eat naturally the body will take care of itself and if you do fill it with toxins there is no miracle cure to remove them that’s left to your over worked specialist detox organs !

Eat raw vegetables, unsweetened fruit juices, brown rice, lean chicken and turkey, fish and drink plenty of water and you will be getting healthy foods that put the minimum of strain on your organs.

Some natural aids

If you want some natural aids try:

Milk thistle to help liver function, bio yoghurt to boost probiotics to help digestion in the gut and finally, wheat bran, which speeds up the passage of food through the colon and gives your digestive system a good clean at the same - Its nickname is natures broom and its name is well earned.

Detoxing don’t believe the myths

The above is totally logical and common sense.

Branded detox aids are of little use and feed on people’s desire for a quick fix. Alas, like all quick fixes if they sound too good to be true and they are.

Your body can detoxify itself, but you well help it by cutting out bad foods eating naturally and drinking lots of water, to help your organs do what they were designed to do by mother nature without the help of a branded pill or juice.

Detox Your Way to Better Living

Given the rather toxic environment we live in today and the plethora of unknown substances and chemicals that are included and lodged in the things we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe, it is necessary that everyone undergo some sort of detoxification program at one point in their lives to stay healthy.

Most detox programs start with strict diets, which not just benefit and strengthen our blood circulation, kidneys, liver, bowels and lungs, but our general health in the long run.

Getting Started, Slowly

There are a number of detox plans you can take, but each one differs from the other in terms of how they are designed to cleanse your body. Some detox programs concentrate on flushing out toxins from your bowels, while some focus their attention on your liver, blood or skin.

If you combine these detox plans, you will be able to jumpstart your bodily functions and restore your health to its maximum level. Why, you can even look a whole lot younger after. Of course, you have to combine your detox diet with proper exercise, rest and positive state of mind.

Detox is equivalent to giving your body a break. By staying away from foods that are a challenge to metabolize and taunt your blood sugar levels, you will be able to generate enough energy required to regenerate and cleanse yourself.

Your Liver is Your Best Asset

Even if our bodies already have built-in detox systems, we still need to detox once in a while. The most important organ you should consider when thinking about starting a detox diet is your liver and how it will thank you dearly after.

Our livers rarely complain when we abuse our bodies, but it is actually the most hardworking of all our internal cleansing organs. It produces heart, balances cholesterol levels, makes the bile we need to digest fat, processes proteins, stores vitamins and activates our hormones. Apart from the that, the liver also filters out all the bad elements we put into our bodies by drinking alcohol, smoking or inhaling chemical substances.

While our livers can still function despite a lot of damage, once you’ve started feeling sluggish, digest poorly, have dull skin and start developing dark eye circles, it’s time to reward it for its hard work by undergoing a detox phase.

Seek Help

You can start your detox program by searching for information on the Internet or by asking your doctor for advice. Foods that aid in effective detoxification include those that are limonene-rich like lemons, or slightly bitter veggies like fennel, broccoli or artichokes. Water is also a no-fail beverage. But if you truly want to get the maximum benefits out of your detox plan, seek professional assistance.

It is important to note, however, that people usually experience some form of nausea or headache while undergoing a detox process. This is because of the toxins released. If this happens to you, slow down on the program and start again very gradually. Your body will need to be properly primed and readied for the detox program so it can respond well. You simply can’t demand your body to cleanse itself immediately.

Good health is not that difficult to achieve. You just have to keep your body healthy inside and out. Do this through proper exercise, enough rest and a healhty diet. Of course, a good detox program will also work wonders.

Spring Cleaning - Our Bodies, Our Selves

When we think spring, we think cleaning. Cleaning house, getting rid of accumulated junk, putting away our winter paraphernalia and coming out into the sunshine. It is also a time to cleanse ourselves - our bodies, our minds, and even our spirit.

Physically, it’s time to climb out of hibernation, and dust off those cobwebs of toxins that have accumulated over the recent winter season. I’m sure many of us succumbed somewhat to the sugar, processed food and high-fat goodies over the holidays, or like me, lounging by the fireplace breathing in dry air while being housebound during the recent snow storm in my part of the world.

After our winter hibernation, it is important to do some sort of cleanse - starting with the liver and the colon. The liver is the second largest organ in the body and is responsible for filtering and detoxifying the blood. The colour green and the spring season are also associated with the liver, according to Chinese Medicine philosophy. Green is associated with energy and being alive, and spring is a time of being active. But over time the liver becomes taxed due to our stressful lifestyles, intake of processed, refined foods, sugar, caffeine, additives and preservatives, pesticides, and pharmaceutical residues that we absorb and retain. The colon functions to expel toxins and wastes that are collected from other organs, including the liver. Like the liver, if the colon retains toxins and waste material, then it can recycle the waste back into the body, putting enormous burdens on other organs, forcing them to work harder to process out toxins.

An overburdened liver and poorly functioning colon to can lead to unexplained rapid weight gain or loss, chronic fatigue, chronic indigestion, diarrhea and constipation, anemia, depression, dull skin or rashes, poor digestion, hormonal imbalances, and impaired immune and circulatory function. Detoxifying the liver, as well the blood, kidneys and intestines is a good first step in releasing all those accumulated toxins.

So what specifically can one do to detox? Pertaining to the liver, cleansing herbs such milk thistle, dandelion root, stinging nettle are all good choices. Milk thistle especially contains an active ingredient called Silymarin which promotes detoxification, and can be taken in liquid or capsule form. Increase your consumption of green foods, especially kale, spinach, mung bean, alfalfa and chlorophyll, as well as eliminating refined and processed foods, such as sugar, alcohol, and white flour products from the diet is vital.

If you have heard about colon cleansing or hydrotherapy, but didn’t know where to start, now’s the time. Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle flushing of accumulated wastes and toxins from the large intestine. In my clinic, I recommend a course of colon irrigation treatments, approximately 12 sessions, every six months. Detox programs include diet and lifestyle modification, homeopathic treatment and often acupuncture as adjuncts to the colon cleansing series.

So what are you waiting for? Spring cleansing time is here. Start your path today to boosted energy levels, improved immune function, and more vitality and well-being. Your mind, body and spirit will thank you for it.
